Columbus Trophy returns to the BBB hospitality tradeshow

Prestigious prize for starting entrepreneurs returns to its roots

The Columbus Trophy, encouragement award for starting entrepreneurs, returns to the BBB hospitality tradeshow (5th until 7th of October, MECC Maastricht) for its 12th edition. This decision was recently made by the organisation of the Columbus Trophy in collaboration with the initiators Mise en Place & MECC Maastricht.

The Columbus Trophy  is an award, granted to a successful young entrepreneur who is active as supplier to the hospitality industry, or who has created an innovative hospitality concept. Opposed to the various hospitality innovation awards that are known throughout Europe, the Columbus Trophy does not focus solely on the product or service, but focuses on the entrepreneur behind it. Many young entrepreneurs have great drive and potential, but find it challenging to continue when they experience difficulties. The Columbus Trophy aims to support those entrepreneurs by stimulating them to take that extra step.

In the past 11 editions the Columbus Trophy has matured. It started as a regional prize in the South of The Netherlands, now companies from across Europe compete for this highly eligible prize. The winner receives international recognition and an incentive of € 2.500,-. All of the finalists have the opportunity to present themselves during the BBB hospitality tradeshow.

The Columbus Trophy is returning to its roots after having been awarded during Food Executive Europe, a two day convention and networking event for leading decision makers from the hotel, catering and foodservice industry, for two years. “The BBB hospitality tradeshow offers the finalists a wide Euregional platform to meet prospects. The quality of the BBB visitors is high and the tradeshow is the perfect entrance into the Euregional market for a lot of European finalists. We are confident that we have made a great step forward for the Columbus Trophy as a prominent prize for entrepreneurs”, thus Charles van Goch, initiator.

The registration for the 12th edition of the Columbus Trophy closes on Tuesday June 30th 2015, after which, during several jury rounds, the candidate selection will be brought down to a final eight. The head sponsor of the Columbus Trophy, investment and development company NV Industriebank LIOF, then adds two finalists by means of wildcards. All finalists present themselves from the 5th until the 7th of October 2015 on the 61st edition of the BBB, where on Monday October 5th the Columbus Trophy will be awarded for the 12th time.
